1. Version Chaos - "BOQ_v3_final_FINAL2.xlsx"
You know the pattern. Your desktop is littered with files like BOQ_Riverside_v2.xlsx, BOQ_Riverside_v3_final.xlsx, and the inevitable BOQ_Riverside_v3_final_FINAL2.xlsx. Three people work on the same bill, each has their own copy, and nobody is sure which one is current.
The problem deepens when the client asks for a variation. You correct the unit rate for reinforcement and send the new file, but your colleague has already made changes in the old version. Merging the two is manual work, and manual work breeds errors.

Create from Scratch or Import
There are two ways to start a new quantity survey:

Manual creation - you add items from the Nomenclature and set quantities and unit rates. Picking an item from the Nomenclature fills in the unit of measurement and the unit rate for you, and the table sorts by whichever column you choose.

Importing Existing Items from Excel
The reality is that most firms already have dozens of finished bills of quantities sitting in Excel. Moving to new software should not mean re-typing them row by row.
The import dialog hands you a ready template. You download it, rearrange your data into its columns, and upload it back. The system matches each line item by code against your Nomenclature and shows you the result before it writes anything: which rows found a match, which did not, and what is about to enter the survey.
This path is quick and predictable precisely because it is literal. Matching is done on the code, not on a guess. A line item whose code is missing from your Nomenclature comes in as a new one and you decide what to do with it.
A finished survey can be duplicated for the next site, exported to Excel or PDF, and printed, all from the menu on its detail page.
How the Quantity Survey, the Offer, and the Contract Move Together
Once the survey is ready, its line items travel forward without being re-typed:

Offer - from the survey detail page you press "Create Offer" and the items carry over ready-made. From that point the offer lives its own life: you correct the prices in it without touching the survey. It works the other way round too. In the new offer form you can import items from an existing quantity survey.

Contract - when a contract is created, the system builds a bill of quantities for the contract and keeps it in step with every edit to it. That bill, not the original survey, is what governs the Acts and the progress tracking from then on.
The difference against Excel is not that documents synchronize by magic. The difference is that an item is entered once and travels from there, instead of being keyed into three files that you then have to reconcile.
Acts Against the Contract, With the Balance Tracked
The quantity survey module connects to the module for acts of work executed through the contract. The process runs like this:
- Open the contract and start a new act from it.
- See the line items with their contract quantities and the balance left to full completion.
- Enter what was executed in the current act. The system will not let you exceed the balance.
- Values are calculated automatically and the executed work accumulates per line item.
On the contract detail page every line item shows the progress accumulated so far:
